Floods, Hudud and Whatever!

Idealistic Malaysians still cannot see how Pakatan Rakayt leaders have an unholy and disunited coalition their forced marriage of convenience – a mockery of the word ‘Pakatan’.

Never before has it being as glaringly clear as it is today that DAP, PAS and PKR have their own agendas and never have they agreed to disagree or to find middle ground.

The country is now facing floods in many areas and the status quo are trying their best to help the rakyat as effectively as they can but all Pakatan Rakyat leaders can do is to hide behind their party flag and condemn the government and worse still, condemn their supposed partners in PR as well.

Lim Kit Siang was born with one mission – to spew filth and to deride anyone who is not on his side.

Donning the thickest blinkers ever created, Lim Kit Siang has bungled big time with his senseless tweet about KLIA2 and despite facing the wrath of netizens, has continued his merry way to castigate anyone but his own party members.

As long as anything can put the status quo in bad light, LKS will jump at the opportunity to make baseless accusations, which supporters will cling to as if it were messages from heaven.

Today, LKS amplified the problems in Manek Urai, Dabong, Kuala Krai and many other places in the east coast. At no point in time, has Lim Kit Siang or his party leaders ever outlined or announced what DAP has done for flood victims. No and NEVER. They are NOT concerned about the victims.

Their main concern is two-fold – magnify the problem and to accuse the government of doing nothing or to put the Prime Minister and his leaders in very negative light.

DAP specializes in SPINNING myths and distorting reality via misperceptions. They are experts in diverting attention from real problems that DAP is facing – such as how they are losing the hudud war against PAS and how Chinese will finally realize that DAP is ever ready to make friends or enemies as long as they can reap benefits and mileage.

For example, when the CEC issue exploded and DAP faced the prospects of being deregistered, they were ready to contest under the PAS flag. DAP even convinced Chinese voters to support PAS using the rationale that PAS would not forge ahead with its hudud plan. In addition, what have we today?

PAS has announced its hudud amendment in Kelantan on Dec 29 and there has been little news about what it is doing in Kelantan for the flood victims.

In that respect, PAS and DAP are similar – both are not concerned about the rakyat, only about themselves. Both are ready to be friends today and enemies tomorrow whenever it suits them.

PAS is not ashamed that Kelantan is one of the poorest states in Malaysia nor are they worried about imposing gender segregation or how tourism and investments in the state have been dwindling.

As for PKR, where was the Kajang adun Dr. Wan Azizah when the flood broke out and what has she done since?

Conveniently, Lim Kit Siang chose to keep a holy silence about this because he needs to warp the perception of citizens. Truth, justice, being concerned and doing what they were ELECTED to do is never a priority. DAP supremacy is THE one and only priority.

Therefore, whether it is floods, hudud or whatever issue plagues the country, you can bet PR leaders will throw temper tantrums because each leader wants to be Frank Sinatra – to do it THEIR way, not the coalition’s way. No wonder, LKS threatened to quit Pakatan meetings if PAS insists on hudud.

However, why didn’t people ask – why quit meetings only? Why not quit the whole coalition and go solo if they always want things their way, if they always feel DAP is THE best party in this nation?

Why are they playing to the galley whenever it suits them? Why are they diverting attention from their failure in the hudud wrangle by slamming the government when DAP has done nothing for flood victims?

It is because they cannot do anything else as it is beyond their ken.

It is time Lim Kit Siang takes lessons from IKHLAS that has achieved milestones in the way they have helped flood victims in Pahang. Scolding, cursing and blaming is not the IKHLAS way (pun intended) – that is reserved for DAP. Real citizens reach out, turun padang and help victims but alas, Lim Kit Siang cannot get his shoes dirty – his mouth is dirty enough and he would like to keep it that way.

S'gor excos unveiled, PAS loses one to PKR

The new Selangor executive councillor lineup announced today sees PAS' representation slashed following the party's obstructive role in the Selangor MB saga.

With this, PAS' exco members are down from the previous four to three, with PKR taking up the spot to give it four.

However, the deputy speaker post will be given to PAS.

Zahid: PAS' Unit Amal to face action as well

A day after police arrested 156 members of the Penang Voluntary Patrol Unit (PPS), the home minister says he is "sure" police will act against the PAS volunteer corps Unit Amal too.

"The same action will be taken by the police. I am very sure they are going to take action," Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told journalists in Kuala Lumpur today.

The minister said this when asked about the difference between the PPS and Unit Amal, which has operated for decades and facilitated in crowd control for opposition protests as well as PAS' community events.

Top Ten Reasons Why Pakatan Rakyat is a Failure

1. A coalition is a group of people/parties/organizations who share common interest in reaching the same goal and work together harmoniously by regularly meeting and resolving issues/differences. Pakatan Rakyat does not do this. 

Although PAS, DAP and PKR share the same goal of toppling BN, they do not have common interests, philosophy or methodology in reaching that goal.

2. A coalition draws inspiration and direction from citizens/members/regional population. This does not apply for Pakatan Rakayt.

PAS, DAP and PKR each get direction from THREE DIFFERENT party leaders who do not co-exist for the same goal.

3. A coalition works to build a healthy community. Pakatan Rakyat thrives by sowing the seeds of dissent.

PAS, DAP and PKR work for self-interest. Decisions made by leaders are usually for THEIR PERSONAL interests.

A good example is the Kajang by-election and MB issue in Selangor.

4. A coalition draws up guidelines and work towards achieving their goals by following guidelines. This does not apply to Pakatan Rakyat.

Pakatan Rakyat had differences when drafting their Buku Jingga and even when completed, it remains A BUKU - A MERE BOOK for show. All else is forgotten!

5. A coalition must have members which respect member parties/organizations but not Pakatan Rakyat.

Pakatan Rakyat coalition party leaders have no qualms about asking other parties to leave when their ideology or methodology do NOT match.

Malaysiakini reported that Lim Guan Eng said "the biggest issue after Aidilfitri celebrations is whether the two party system can continue in Malaysia. The breaking up of Pakatan Rakyat on the refusal of one component party to respect and hold on to views arrived at together, could not be discounted according to his Hari Raya statement today."

6. A coalition must have member parties/organizations that respect and honour the decisions and opinions of other members. 

Recently, PAS frustrated PKR and DAP when it said that there was no reason to remove Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim from his post. According to Lim Guan Eng, "if the decisions we have achieved together in the Pakatan highest leadership council is dismissed just like that by one party, the survival and credibility of Pakatan will be continue to be undermined."

What future is left for Pakatan Rakyat, what hope is there for its supporters when Lim Guan Eng himself has PUBLICLY acknowledged that the survival and credibility of Pakatan Rakyat is at stake? Zilch.

7. A coalition makes and keeps promises but not Pakatan Rakyat.

Over the years, Pakatan Rakyat has CLAIMED it can govern if it is given the mandate by the rakyat. They promised to show their shadow cabinet which today has been in the shadows, never ever seeing the light of day! Are they capable of governing Malaysia when they cannot even keep a basic promise?

8. A coalition must show and develop its abilities and competence to foster healthy relationships with member parties/organizations to sustain efforts to reach their mission. Sorry, this does not apply to PR.

Pakatan Rakyat leaders almost always issue individual press statements without consulting/considering or acknowledging the views of other leaders of member parties.

Is this effective cooperation or destructive individualism?

9. To succeed, a coalition must show progressive or interim victories because its members work together in unity. Pakatan Rakyat does not have any such consistent record except only in their wishful fantasies.

Since 2008, we have seen PKR, PAS and DAP fighting over seats, limelight and a host of other issues. Self-interest rules, not party cohesion. We see Anwar Ibrahim trapising all over the world to shame the country in international media whereas other leaders HAVE NO COMMENT about such actions.

Who is in charge? Is there unity?

10. A coalition can only succeed if leaders show consideration for the greater good of the country by pooling resources, ensuring proper communication flow to sustain an alliance that unites members to achieve goals and empowers leaders to share power for long-term social and political change. Pakatan Rakyat has never, will never and can never do that.

It is a marriage of convenience that never worked from Day 1. It is a threesome kind of menage a trois whereby three leaders only see themselves and not the other two leaders nor do they see the Trinity kind of leadership depicted by its name. It is never THREE-IN-ONE leadership but each screaming and fighting to be NUMBER ONE.

So there you go....this is the crux of why Pakatan Rakyat has failed and can never serve the rakyat because its leaders are self-serving giants or dinosaurs in the political sphere of Malaysia!

Hadi Backs Khalid

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has delivered a blow to PKR by throwing his weight behind embattled Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim.

According to Bernama, he said Khalid had not betrayed the trust given by the people.

"That is my stand and I hope all PAS leaders are with me," he said, adding that the decision was made after considering the views of majority of the PAS grassroots.

He said majority of PAS grassroots agreed that Khalid should remain as menteri besar.

However, this would depend on the sultan of Selangor, he told reporters when met at his house in Marang, Terengganu.

PKR had nominated its president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to replace Khalid, a move which is believed to have the backing of DAP as well.

Hadi said Khalid's track record, in helming Selangor, and retaining the state in the 13th general election could not be denied, despite problems in Pakatan Rakyat.

He said he could not accept the grounds given by some quarters in wanting Khalid to step down.

"If he is involved in a scandal, breach of trust, misappropriation of government funds, then we can change, but if it is because of other reasons, it is not by changing the menteri besar.

"Let him complete his term," he was quoted as saying.

Asked on the possibility of PAS inviting Khalid to join the party, Hadi said PAS had no intention of doing so.

"That is not our way and since the beginning, although we have 15 seats, which is more than PKR, we give PKR the menteri besar seat because we already have the (menteri besar) seat in Kelantan.

"That shows the spirit of cooperation in Pakatan Rakyat," he added.

Who Is Playing Hooded Political Stunts?

Why would a representative from a party that supposedly opposes hudud APPROVE a motion to discuss hudud and then allow other members to talk down to MCA?

The Selangor Speaker has put Barisan Nasional (BN) on notice, telling the coalition to stop playing political games with the state assembly after Selangor Umno withdrew a motion on hudud.

Hannah Yeoh, who received a lot of flak over her decision to table the motion, said she felt the move was a political stunt. 

“The State Assembly is not a place for any member to play political games. I view this move by the assemblyman from Umno as a blatant political stunt. 

“If an assemblyman is not ready or prepared to debate or stand by his motion, he should never have wasted the state assembly’s time by tabling it in the first place,” she said. 

Yeoh said that every assemblyperson had an inherent duty to uphold the integrity and preserve the sanctity of the state assembly by not treating it carelessly and haphazardly.

If she has such strong feelings about the motion, why did she approve it in the first place??????

Lawyer Tommy Thomas yesterday said he was shocked that she allowed the debate as it was unconstitutional, arguing that state assemblies have no business discussing a criminal issue outside their legislative competence.

Thomas said hudud is a revolutionary concept that should be nipped in the bud, instead of encouraged.

BN component party MCA also joined the fray and urged Yeoh to reject the motion, with its state deputy chairman Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai saying the debate on hudud is not important and a discussion on the possibility of implementing it in Selangor is a waste of time.

 MCA today claimed “victory” over Selangor Umno’s withdrawal of a motion to debate on hudud in the state assembly sitting scheduled to reconvene on Monday.

“With the withdrawal of the motion which was straightforward, MCA has proven its mettle in functioning as a gatekeeper to ensure the spirit of Barisan Nasional (BN),” MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said.

“Similarly, we hope DAP in Pakatan will play a more prominent gatekeeper’s function on hudud law issues to prove that DAP has some form of power within and outside Pakatan.”

Wee said, however, DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang’s move in rushing to Kelantan to clarify that DAP did not blame PAS nor hudud for the defeat of the party’s candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud at the Teluk Intan by-election, showed that DAP was so powerless that it was unable to defend its own words and position.

“In the same vein, I urge DAP to play a bigger role within the Pakatan coalition, ie, DAP must curb PAS from its plan to table a Private Member’s Bill during the September session of the Dewan Rakyat to formally implement hudud in Kelantan,” Wee said in a statement today.

Wee added although Selangor Umno’s motion only required a debate on the study on the probability of implementing hudud law, Pakatan leaders had deliberately distorted the motion likening it to an intention to implement, which Wee said was not the case.

“Pakatan leaders had deliberately twisted the truth while Selangor Umno had no desire to implement hudud law.”

He added DAP which held the largest Opposition bloc in the Dewan Rakyat with 37 seats, should play a better role on national issues.

This, he said, was to prevent the country falling under a theocratic regime through the implementation of hudud.

“DAP should implore PAS to abandon its hope of achieving a theocratic rule. The first step is for PAS to give up its proposal to table a Private Member’s Bill to implement hudud law in Kelantan.”

Today, Selangor BN assemblymen agreed to withdraw the motion asking the state government to study the possibility of implementing hudud, the Islamic penal code.

Opposition leader in the state assembly, Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias, said the move was to allow the 15 PAS assemblymen to table the motion themselves as implementing hudud was in PAS’ agenda.

Teluk Intan - The Omen for Pakatan Rakyat

KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — Unresolved issues within Pakatan Rakyat (PR) such as PAS's renewed hudud bid and the mounting discontent in Selangor could leave the pact with just Penang and handful of federal seats in urban areas in the next general election, according to political observers.



PR leaders told The Malay Mail Online that DAP's performance in Teluk Intan — going from a 7,313-majority win in 2013 to a 238-vote loss — is an indication of potential losses in the future if PAS, DAP, and PKR do not settle its conflicts and maintain its common policy framework.

Issues such as growing public anger towards Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim's handling of the Kinrara Damansara Expressway (Kidex), the seizure of Malay- and Iban-language bibles by the Selangor Islamic Department (Jais) and allegations of voter manipulation and result delays in PKR's on-going party elections are but a few examples of issues facing the PR state government.

Another pressing concern is PAS's unilateral push for hudud to be implemented in Kelantan, which critics have pointed out went against PR's Election 2013 manifesto.

“If this goes on, we might see a repeat of what happened to PAS in Kedah in 2013 and Barisan Nasional (BN) in Selangor before 2008.

“If voters decided to punish Pakatan in Selangor for not listening and addressing their concerns, like in the Kidex and bible issue we could very well lose the state come GE14,” former political analyst and DAP election strategist Dr Ong Kian Ming told The Malay Mail Online when contacted.



He said PAS's insistence on its hudud bid was costing the opposition pact support among non-Malay voters whom he said feel let down by the Islamist party's departure from its previous “PAS for all” agenda during GE13.

“Because PAS has pushed hudud, which is not part of PR's common manifesto, voters feel betrayed because it goes against our election promise — no hudud,” Ong added.

Adding to that concern, Ong said was PKR's leadership crisis and internal strife in its party election.

“The fact that the elections have dragged on longer than it should is distracting the party from addressing its problems with the Selangor administration.

“The other worry is that PKR's election problems may affect Pakatan's agenda for free and fair elections.... how do we promote that when there are serious concerns as to the transparency of elections on a party level,” he said.

PKR’s internal polls have been mired by allegations of corruption and impropriety, forcing the party to conduct fresh balloting for 35 branches and indefinitely postpone the results.

Selangor DAP deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo agreed with his party colleague, stressing that PR had a “moral obligation” to uphold all of its Election 2013 promises.

A vocal opponent of Kidex, Gobind said that MB Khalid's support for the highway as well as PAS's hudud push contravened the opposition pact's common agenda.

Kidex is a proposed 14.9km highway that will cut through densely-populated parts of Petaling Jaya that is meeting with increasing resistance from residents.

“Promises made during elections must be kept, there is no other way around this.

“In the case of hudud, Malaysia is and must always remain a secular state,” he told The Malay Mail Online when contacted.

In 1993, the PAS state government passed the Kelantan Shariah Criminal Code Enactment (II), allowing it to impose the strict Islamic penal code in the state. But the laws have not been implemented.

PAS is now looking for parliamentary approval to implement hudud. It plans to put forward two private members’ bills in Parliament.

“What will happen if these things go unaddressed is that people will be reluctant to come out to vote.

“Because if they support DAP and PKR, it means they support PAS as well,” the Puchong MP added.

Independent political analyst Khoo Kay Peng said that PR's inability to honour its common policy agenda showed that the three-party pact was still a “loose coalition” and that not all of its leaders were on the same page.

This, he said would do little to inspire voters to come out and support PR in the next general election in the numbers that gave the pact the popular vote victory in Election 2013.

“What you are going to see is a trend of voters who may be Pakatan supporters but who will not want to go back to their home states to vote,” he told The Malay Mail Online when contacted.

Low voter turnout was cited as among the factors that saw DAP lose in Teluk Intan.

Khoo added that the issues in Selangor and the hudud push in Kelantan will also affect how voters viewed PR as a whole.

“When you oversell on reform, you have to back it up.

“What is happening in Selangor and Kelantan is not a good example of good governance,” Khoo said.

In Election 2013, PR won 89 of the 222 federal seats, building on the 82 it took five years before and again denied BN its customary supermajority in Parliament.

Shahrir tells Dyana to understand DAP’s secular stance

JOHOR BARU, May 21:
DAP candidate for the Teluk Intan parliamentary constituency Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud has been asked to fully understand the DAP’s fight in defending the policy of secularism.

In making the call, Johor Baru Umno division chief Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said he was shocked when Dyana Sofya was reported to have declared that, if elected, she would oppose the hudud bills that PAS had proposed to table in Parliament.

The 27-year-old candidate said she was opposed to hudud law in accordance with the party line, or the DAP’s fight.

“Secularism is a concept whereby the government or any other entity exists in separation from religion or religious belief. How did the party come to have such a party line when it is secular?” asked Shahrir at a media conference at the Johor Baru Umno division office today.

He said the DAP, as a party which defended secularism, must allow its Muslim leaders and representatives to make their own stand as Muslims.

While respecting Dyana Sofya’s decision to join the DAP, Umno veteran Shahrir said it was not something weird even though she was brought up in a family which supported the Umno cause.

“The situation is now very open and there should be no surprise when family members, such as mine, hold different political views.

“My sister was influenced by socialism when studying in the United Kingdom in the 60′s.

“When studying in Universiti Malaya, I was influenced by Umno which was fighting for the New Economic Policy, while my brother (Khalid — Pas Member of Parliament for Shah Alam) supported PAS after being influenced by the Islamic Revolution while studying in the UK.”

Shahrir also expressed confidence that BN candidate Datuk Mah Siew Keong was capable of wresting the Teluk Intan seat from the Opposition.

“Mah still has a chance of winning because he has continued to provide good service to the people there despite losing in 2013.

“Can the DAP provide such service?”

Four-cornered fight in Bukit Gelugor

GEORGE TOWN:  It will be a four-cornered fight in Bukit Gelugor by-election on May 25.

Favourite, DAP’s Ramkarpal Singh Deo will face three others in the battle to earn the right to become the next Bukit Gelugor parliamentarian.

The by-election returning officer Anwar Yahya announced the contestants after nomination closed at 10am in Dewan Sri Pinang here today.

Ramkarpal, 38, will face main challenge from Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) vice-president Huan Cheng Guan, 53.

Independent candidates are Nabi Bux Mohamed Nabi Abd Sathar, 63, and lawyer Abu Backer Sidek Mohamad Zan.

The by-election is being held following the death of incumbent MP Karpal Singh in a highway accident near Kampar, Perak on April 17.

Polling is on Sunday, May 25. Early polling is on Wednesday, May 21.

Bukit Gelugor candidate Lawyer Ramkarpal is Karpal’s third son.

He arrived at the nomination centre at about 9am and filed his nomination papers at 9.13am.

He was accompanied by a large, noisy campaign entourage including top Pakatan Rakyat leaders and family members.

Huan arrived at the nomination centre before nine with his smaller group of PCM supporters. He filed his papers at 9am.

Nabi filed his papers at 9.02 while Backer filed at 9.41am.

With the surprised withdrawal of rival MCA from the contest, Huan is being expected to be the DAP’s main challenger this time.

But Ramkarpal is expected to sail through easily in this Chinese-dominant seat.

Observers said the question now was only the margin of his imminent victory.

Ramkarpal is confident that he can even better his father’s majority.

Dewan Sri Pinang will also be used as the counting centre. Returning officer Anwar will be assisted by five officers to oversee the election process.

A total of 21 polling centres will be opened for voting purposes, of which 17 to be used during the normal voting day while four voting centres are set for early voters.

PAS told to leave Pakatan

GEORGE TOWN: PAS should stick to its principles and leave Pakatan Rakyat if the opposition pact can’t reach a consensus on the proposal to enact hudud laws for Kelantan.

Former DAP vice president Zulkifli Mohd Noor said the time has come for PAS to understate its political principles and objectives instead of hiding behind the Pakatan Rakyat curtain.

“On one hand, some quarters in PAS, particularly within the Kelantan leadership circle, are insisting for hudud. On the another, a different set of PAS leaders want to avoid the issue, preferring to allow a heated debate to ensue.

“In the midst of it, PKR is keeping quiet, preferring to dabble in half-baked statements while DAP has sternly opposed hudud, citing secularism as the true form of the country’s constitution. In politics, there is a need to have principles.

“It is unfair to the people if political parties profess to keep things hazy. The nation needs to know what Pakatan Rakyat is all about,” said Zulkifli.

He said if PAS were to stay with Pakatan Rakyat, then the Islamist party should find a way out of the hudud maze.
Opposition parties comprising — PAS, DAP, PKR and PSM — formed Barisan Alternatif in 1998. In 2011, DAP decided to pull out of the coalition on grounds that it association with PAS was causing a decline in support for the DAP.

Now, its PAS’ turn to make a decision, Zulkifli said.

Pakatan to break up soon?

‘Pakatan split inevitable, says Zahid’ – that was one of the stories carried in one of our local English dailies dated May 6, 2014.

Much has been talked about the health of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition these days especially in regard to the hudud issue.

Although the mainstream media has made a big issue of the so-called impending split, Nizar Jamaluddin, the PAS Changkat Jering state assemblyman, is of the view that as long as PR does not fall into the enemy’s trap, it is PR who will remain strong while the enemy will experience a rift in their working relationship.

The key to the hudud issue is for all of PR’s component parties to stay calm and not react to the instigation or provocations of the enemy.

Khalid Samad, the PAS Shah Alam MP, commented that “Pakatan will not break up if everyone works together in order to handle the hudud issue well.”

Added Khalid, “Moreover DAP opposing hudud is nothing new as DAP has been opposing it since Day 1. We agree to disagree on this issue and we will most definitely be going all out to help DAP win their upcoming parliamentary by-elections in Bukit Gelugor and Teluk Intan.”

Whatever is said up till this point in time, it must be noted that DAP and PKR both knew of PAS Islamic struggle even before PR was formed in April 2008.

Therefore the hudud issue should never act as a catalyst for the breaking up of Pakatan Rakyat and it would be tragic if PR was to go the way of Barisan Alternatif 10 years ago.

Mistakes should never be repeated.

Former Kuala Selangor MP, Dzulkefly Ahmad of PAS, remarked that he is the eternal optimist and what PR is going through now will only serve to strengthen the coalition.

The enemy will surely capitalise on the hudud issue to weaken Pakatan by saying that the late Karpal Singh who held the Bukit Gelugor seat was a strong opponent of hudud, never mind that he was opposing it based on arguments from the Federal Constitution.

Therefore DAP and PAS must work together to counter this point that will surely be raised a thousand and one times during these by-election campaigns.

In actual fact, hudud aside, DAP and PAS have a very good working relationship. Take for instance in the 2008 general election when they worked well together to capture the very tough Changkat Jong state seat which falls under the parliamentary seat of Teluk Intan.

This seat which was won by PAS in 2008 was lost to BN in 2013 when the 30% Indian voters in Changkat Jong who had wanted M Manogaran (the incumbent) to contest in Teluk Intan had protested by not coming out to vote.

(M Manogaran was instead sent to Cameron Highlands late wherein he acquitted himself well, losing only to MIC’s G Palanivel by 462 votes with 877 votes being spoilt.) This shows that the contributions of every race is equally important in PR.

And PR leaders must therefore learn from this and not allow any issue to become a contentious issue in Pakatan.

PR will hold firm

At this point in time, MCA is still pushing DAP to stop PAS from attempting to implement hudud in Kelantan via a tabling of a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament next month.

A PAS insider who spoke on condition of anonymity had informed this columnist thus, “Don’t worry, let PAS go ahead, I cannot say more but I dare to say that PR will hold firm.”

Still, the general public is getting a bad impression of PR as an unstable coalition because no one knows what is really going on behind the scenes.

The best thing for everyone in PR to do would be not issuing statements every now and then because these statements confuse the rakyat or worsen the situation.

The more statements that are issued by PR leaders, the more fodder is given to the enemy to spin about.
From now on, any response from Pakatan on the hudud issue should be a united statement. Otherwise, silence is golden because some of these statements are quite unsettling to the public and the supporters of PR.

PR leaders must strive to control the hudud issue or else they will be controlled by the hudud issue.

Currently PR leaders seem to come across as losing focus and losing direction. The hudud issue has taken up much of their time when they should be working the ground to explain the GST (Goods & Services Tax) to the rakyat as the government will be employing 500 people to do so.

Pakatan leaders must focus their attention on urgent issues at hand. Otherwise they will lose the support of the rakyat.

To-date, PR is the most viable coalition acting as a check and balance against the BN federal government. It would be a great pity if PR is dissolved.

Indeed it would be a very sad day if Pakatan ceases to exist because the people’s hopes for a two-party system would then be gone forever.

PAS: The Game Plan Changes

PAS and Umno are the two biggest Muslim-Malay parties in the country and, together, they have the numbers needed for PAS to realise its dream of hudud law in Kelantan.

TAN Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had arrived at Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat’s house with little fanfare. It was a social visit and he had brought along his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman. The VIP couple were inside for about an hour with the men – Muhyiddin, Nik Aziz and his politician son Nik Abduh – chatting in the main living room and the women in another room. By the time the host and his visitors emerged, a curious crowd had gathered outside the modest kampung house, many of them holding up their cellphones to record the occasion.

It is not every day that the Deputy Prime Minister and his wife come to visit and Nik Aziz was wearing the broadest smile that anyone has seen in months.

Muhyiddin had been wanting to visit Nik Aziz after hearing that the elderly former Mentri Besar was in poor health and the opportunity came when he had some free time between functions in Kota Baru.

Muhyiddin was dressed just right for visiting a Tok Guru – long-sleeved shirt, no tie, not too formal and with just the right touch of respect. Moreover, he was wearing a kopiah. Everyone knows Muhyiddin is more of a songkok man and he usually dons a kopiah when he is headed for the mosque or a religious event.

But there is very little in Kelantan that does not have a tinge of politics about it, and the social visit was quickly read as yet another sign of the warming ties between the country’s two biggest Muslim-Malay political parties.

The Muslim brethren thing is a very potent force and should not be underestimated. It is no secret that some in Umno feel they have much more in common with PAS especially after the way the Chinese rejected Barisan Nasional and their continuing attacks on anything to do with Umno.

Besides, Muhyiddin’s visit had come after Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak popped by IJN to visit Datuk Dr Haron Din, the leading theologian in PAS, who was recovering from chest pains.

Dr Haron sat cross-legged on the bed and chatted away with the Prime Minister like they were old friends. When it was time to go, Najib held the older man’s hands with both of his, gripping firmly to wish him speedy recovery.

Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob, on his part, was at the Ipoh hospital recently to visit an Umno assemblyman from Kelantan who was injured in an accident near Tapah that killed his wife.

Umno and PAS are still on opposite sides of the fence, make no mistake about that. There is still a great deal of rivalry and distrust between the two sides but the sharp edge has been replaced by a friendlier and more cooperative spirit.

For instance, Kok Lanas assemblyman Datuk Alwi Che Ahmad said federal leaders feel welcome in Kelantan nowadays. The softer tone in their relationship has enabled a number of public projects to take off and this will ultimately benefit the people of Kelantan.

Physical development is one thing. What PAS wants most now is for Umno to help them achieve their quest to implement hudud in Kelantan.

Ahmad and his deputy Datuk Nik Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah are about to pull off what Nik Aziz lacked the political will to do. It looks like the low-profile and soft-spoken Ahmad has been seriously underestimated by all.

If Ahmad gets his way, the PAS claim of Kelantan as the “serambi Mecca” or the verandah of Islam’s holiest city will take on a whole new meaning. It will be second only to the kingdom of Brunei which, on Friday, officially became an Islamic State.

The two Private Members’ Bills that PAS is planning to table in Parliament need only a simple majority to go through.

But PAS is caught in a weird situation – it is unable to rely on its partners DAP and PKR for support. Instead, the party is reaching out to Umno for help to push through the Bills.

And that is why some are wondering whether all that “hello, how are you?” pleasantries going on between their respective leaders may be more than social niceties.

The political storm surrounding the PAS push for hudud law is growing bigger and more thunderous. There has been a tense exchange of words over it among the Pakatan partners.

The most stunning thing about the hudud move is that PAS had happily gone about their plans without consulting or alerting its partners.

It was only after the media started reporting on it that PKR and DAP leaders started taking notice.

Self-denial

But as PAS deputy ulama chief Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed put it: “They (DAP and PKR) implemented policies that PAS did not agree to. If they can do that, we can do the same in Kelantan.”

He was referring to the Penang government passing two enactments – one was an anti-hopping law and the other to facilitate local government elections. PAS was also deeply unhappy about the unilateral move to make Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim Mentri Besar of Selangor via the Kajang Move.

Many Pakatan leaders were in self-denial about the hudud move until recently. For instance, some of them had initially claimed that PAS was not serious and that it was just posturing. They even claimed the Bills would fail because they needed a two-thirds majority to be passed whereas only a simple majority was required.

Several Pakatan politicians even accused the hudud plan of being a game played by Umno.

“Your own partner is the one pushing and you say it is because of Umno. Come on, don’t say stupid things,” said Kapar Umno chief Datuk Faizal Abdullah.

But the one that took the cake was a DAP leader blaming Umno for not stopping PAS. It was like your wife has misbehaved and instead of reprimanding her, you blame your neighbour from across the street for not controlling her.

The Pakatan marriage is still quite intact but it is quite a topsy-turvy scene inside the household.

Nik Aziz has given his blessings for what he called “the beauty of Allah’s law” and told a party leader he is longing to see it happen in his lifetime.

“We won’t do anything to jeopardise the cooperation in Pakatan but we cannot ignore the wishes of the people of Kelantan who voted for PAS,” said PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali.

Party president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang is so keen about it that he wants to be the one to table it in Parliament.

“All our leaders have been waiting a long time for Kelantan to show the goodness and justice of Islamic criminal law. There is no plan to pull the hand brake, we are going ahead. If people are happy and accept it, we can promote hudud all over the country,” said Nik Mohd Amar.

The opinion in PAS is that succeed or fail, their effort will bring them pahala or blessings from the Almighty.

Mustafa said that DAP and PKR have every right to oppose and PAS has every right to implement. And that is the way the cookie crumbles.

It is evident by now that PKR and DAP are quite powerless to stop this grand plan of PAS.

As Karpal Singh said a day before his death: “We cannot stop them from tabling the Bill but we can vote against it.”

But non-Muslim MPs are outnumbered by Muslim MPs and that is why the Muslim MPs in Barisan are now holding the cards.

Najib has put it well in saying that Umno has never rejected hudud and that it wants to study the implementation in greater detail before taking the next step. Hudud is obligatory in Islam but the religion also states that society must be ready and the socio-economic conditions must be there before the beauty of hudud can unfold.

But the reality is that many in Umno are still distrustful of PAS. They think the hudud move is more about politics than faith.

For instance, Pahang state exco member Datuk Sharkar Shamsuddin thinks that PAS wants to change the game because it has been pushed to the side of the football field by its partners.

“PAS is asking us to support a Bill that we have only read about in the newspapers. We want to embrace hudud but we don’t want to be dragged into an issue created by PAS,” said Sharkar who is also an Umno supreme council member.

Selangor’s Faizal put it best: “We are not saying no, but we want to know more before we say yes. This is not a simple yes or no issue because it involves our faith. If it is not done properly, the bad name will not only be on the Kelantan government but also on Muslims and Islam.”

Perlis Going the Hudud Way?

PETALING JAYA: Kelantan may soon have a partner in Perlis in the implementation of the Islamic penal code.

The northern most state is currently awaiting for a consensus from the national technical committee on hudud that was announced on Monday by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

The BN-led Perlis government would decide the possibility to implement hudud after that, reported English daily, New Straits Times today.

The daily quoted Perlis state exco for Islamic affairs and human resources Khairi Hasan as saying so in a written reply to Sanglang state representative, Shukri Ramli of PAS.

“Our main concern is that the failure to develop a Muslim community that truly understood and lived up to the Islamic law requirements would only lead to misunderstanding and slander to the concept of justice in hudud itself,” Khairi was reported as saying.

Shukri had queried whether the state government had set a time frame to implement hudud in the state.

Perlis is made up of 15 state seats of which 13 are held by Umno. The other two are held by PAS and PKR.

Hudud is now widely talked about following PAS-led Kelantan government’s determination to implement their Syariah Criminal Code Enactment II, 1993.

Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob of a PAS announced that a Kelantan-based MP would table a private bill in Parliament in June to see through the implementation of the Islamic penal code.

In a related development, Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the endorsement of the private member’s bill will enable the state to establish a Syariah Special Court and a Syariah Special Appeals Court with eight judges.

“Five of the judges will handle the Syariah Special Appeals Court while the rest is for the Syariah Special Court,” he is reported as saying.

On another matter, Amar stressed that they would go ahead with their plans to implement hudud even though their Pakatan ally, DAP and other parties are against hudud.

PAS on Collision Course with Allies

KOTA BARU: The hudud issue has set PAS on a collision course with its allies in Pakatan Rakyat, with the Kelantan government saying that nothing is going to stop it from enforcing the Islamic criminal law by early next year.

“As far as PAS is concerned, we have not violated any agreement with our allies. We have the right to implement the Islamic laws as the laws of the land in Kelantan,” said state hudud technical committee chairman Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah.

“It is also the right of our allies, PKR and DAP, to disagree but make or break, we will implement the laws by next year.”

Mohd Amar, who is Deputy Mentri Besar, told reporters this after the state executive council meeting here yesterday.

On Tuesday, a high-level meeting among Pakatan leaders in Kuala Lumpur failed to resolve the impasse over Kelantan’s push for hudud in the PAS-controlled state.

The hudud storm has shaken Pakatan like no other issue and it is understood PAS leaders are quite concerned over some of the statements coming from DAP leaders.

Mohd Amar said the Mentri Besar would meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to give him the necessary information on the two Private Member’s Bills that will pave the way for the Islamic laws before they were tabled in the Dewan Rakyat next month.

Mohd Amar is also due to meet Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom in a few days’ time.

He said the state government was ready to set up a special court and syariah appellate courts, saying it had the list of judges who would be appointed to manage the courts.

Mohd Amar said they would be appointed by the Sultan once the Bills were passed in Parliament.

Regarding reports that quoted him as saying that surgeons would amputate the hand of convicted people, he said his remarks had been misconstrued.

“I want to clarify that based on the views of the ulamas, surgeons could play a role in amputating limbs (of criminals) to limit the pain and to make sure the person does not suffer massive loss of blood, and so on.

“It is at the discretion of the judge meting out the sentence on how the punishment would be carried out,” added Mohd Amar.

In Kuala Lumpur, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali said Tuesday’s meeting was a no-holds-barred discussion where everybody spoke their mind.

“We have our stand and they have their stand. But we agreed we must try to hold together as a coalition,” he said.

He said the views expressed at the meeting would be submitted to the Pakatan presidential council that was due to meet next week.

In hudud, Kelantan seeks sharper weapons to battle murder, rape and theft

KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 ― Rather than revising the Federal Constitution, Kelantan hopes to give the Shariah Court more firepower to crack down on Muslims who murder, rape and rob with its proposal to enforce a fundamental brand of Islamic justice.



Kelantan deputy mentri besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah says the PAS-led state government is seeking to create a new federal law to empower the Islamic court to try Muslims for serious crimes.

He said once Islamic criminal law is enforced in Kelantan, all Muslim offenders will be subject to it, while non-Muslims will continue to be tried under conventional law.

Muslims must face Shariah Courts even if their victims are non-Muslims and would not be tried for the same offence under both Islamic and conventional law, he said.

He argued that Malaysia's Penal Code lacks bite to cut the country's rising crime rate.

“The first bill is to seek approval to enact punishment for crimes under the Penal Code,” Mohd Amar told The Malay Mail Online in a recent phone interview.



“Second bill is amend the Shariah Court Act to give freedom for the state to enact punishment higher than what it is now,” the PAS leader added.

The Islamist party created  a storm nationwide with its proposal to push two private members' bills at the next Dewan Rakyat sitting to finally allow it to roll out the Islamic criminal justice system by next year.

PAS also seeks to amend the Shariah Courts (Criminal) Jurisdiction Act 1965 to enable the Islamic Court the right to mete out the death penalty and amputations. The Act limits the Shariah courts to  jail sentences of not more than three years in jail, six strokes of whipping, and  fines not exceeding RM5,000.

Mohd Amar stressed that both bills did not seek to amend Malaysia's constitution, which requires a two-thirds majority vote in the Dewan Rakyat before it can become legislation.

Criminal cases are currently handled by the conventional court system, while the Shariah court’s jurisdiction covers personal law, family law, as well as laws against the precepts of Islam, like “khalwat”, or close proximity, for Muslims.

The new federal law ― which PAS will lay out in parliament to enable the Shariah Court to punish Muslim criminals ― covers murder, causing hurt, rape, sodomy, theft and robbery, all of which are currently offences under the Penal Code.

Mohd Amar, however, did not explain how the new law could co-exist with the Penal Code that covers everyone in Malaysia, regardless of religion.

Article 2 of the Penal Code states that “every person” is liable to punishment under the Penal Code for offences committed in Malaysia listed under that law.

The Panchor assemblyman explained that the Islamic criminal justice system which Kelantan hopes to enforce by next year comprises both “hudud” law ― which covers six offences: apostasy, illicit sexual relations , alcohol consumption, making unproven accusations of illicit sex, theft and robbery ― as well as “qisas” ― which covers murder and causing hurt.

Illicit sexual relations include adultery, premarital sex, rape and sodomy.

“Hudud” means God’s limits, while “qisas” means retaliation.

According to Mohd Amar, apostasy, murder and adultery are punishable by death. Adulterers are subject to death by stoning, while Kelantan will leave it to the courts to decide on the method of execution for murderers and Muslims who renounce their religion.

Muslims who have premarital sex will be lashed 100 times.

Muslims found guilty of rape or sodomy will be subject to the same punishment as adultery of premarital sex, either death by stoning or 100 lashes, depending on their marital status.

Muslims who make unproven accusations of illicit sex will also face 100 lashes.

Muslims who imbibe alcohol will be whipped 80 times.

Muslims convicted of robbery could have a hand and a foot amputated, at the discretion of the court, while robbery that results in a killing can be punished with a death sentence.

Muslim thieves will have their hand, usually the right, chopped off.

Under the “qisas” law of retaliation, Muslims accused of injuring another will be punished by having the same act done to them.

“An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth,” said Mohd Amar.

“So, the purpose of the law is not to punish, but to pose a deterrent,” the 54-year-old said.

He said the burden of proof in Shariah law is “very heavy”, citing the requirement of having four Muslim male witnesses of good character to observe the entire act for the crime of illicit sex, which he said was “almost impossible”.

When asked how rape victims can obtain justice if they fail to secure four witnesses, he said that the rapist can still be punished even if they get one witness, or if they get a psychologist or doctor to testify to the rape, though he did not specify if evidence from a  non-Muslim would rank equal to evidence from a  Muslim.

“Maybe 50 lashes or he will be imprisoned,” said Mohd Amar.

“If she can prove that she was raped, she won't be accused of adultery,” he added.

Mohd Amar also said that if there is insufficient evidence to punish a thief under “hudud” law or if the amount stolen is small, the criminal may go to jail or pay a fine instead of amputation.

He, however, did not specify the worth of goods stolen or the strength of evidence that would merit an amputation.

The Kelantan deputy MB also said that for crimes not covered by Islamic law, such as cheating or criminal breach of trust, Muslims would be tried under the conventional court system.

Gobind: PAS ‘twisting the truth’ about hudud

PETALING JAYA: Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo today hit out at PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for attempting to ‘twist the truth’ with regard to the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.

Gobind said Hadi’s claim that the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council had agreed to PAS’ intention to implement hudud was totally untrue.

“The common agenda of Pakatan Rakyat signed by Hadi himself clearly excludes hudud,” said Gobind in a statement today.

“(And) the DAP has always made it crystal clear that it is totally against hudud as it is unconstitutional and unsuitable in a multiracial country like ours.”

Hadi had stressed that the party will implement hudud even if it faced opposition from the DAP and PKR as the party did not have any deals with them on not to implement the laws.

Gobind however pointed out that PAS (during the last general election) ran its campaign without saying that it would implement hudud in Kelantan.

“This is significant as they pulled in the votes on the combined strength of Pakatan Rakyat on the basis that hudud was never part of its agenda.

“By raising this issue, PAS has demolished its goodwill amongst the people who supported it in the last elections believing that it would abide by the 2011 agenda,” said Gobind.

He added the fact that PAS thought it fit to come up with statements like these, (that Pakatan agrees with tabling the hudud bill), is “in itself sufficient to destroy the trust of its partners in Pakatan Rakyat”.

“The damage has clearly been done.”

Calling on Hadi to correct the report if it was untrue, he stressed that PAS perhaps should reconsider the relevance of its continued existence in Pakatan Rakyat if the report was true.

“The DAP will not sit back. We will defend to the hilt the Pakatan Rakyat agenda which does not include hudud as this formed the basis of the campaign in the General Election.

“This we have always done and without a shadow of doubt will continue to do.”

Quit Pakatan if set on hudud, DAP MP tells PAS

The theocratic ambition of PAS is once again threatening to rip apart the opposition coalition, with DAP insisting that the Islamic party abandons its plan to implement hudud law in Kelantan.

Without mincing his words, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke said PAS should quit Pakatan Rakyat if it wanted to act on a unilateral basis regarding this issue.

"If PAS is adamant in making decisions which do not have consensus in Pakatan, then the most honourable and rational move would be for PAS to withdraw from Pakatan," he added in a statement today.

Loke's remarks were also published in the DAP organ Roketkini.

In 2001, DAP had quit the loose opposition pact called Barisan Alternatif after its leaders crossed swords with their PAS counterparts over the latter’s Islamic state agenda.

Pakatan’s critics have often cautioned voters about the fragile cohesion between the opposition parties given their opposing ideologies.

Meanwhile, Loke stressed that DAP’s stand on this matter is common knowledge and it would not agree to the implementation of hudud because it is impractical and unfitting for a multiracial nation.

"How can laws be enforced effectively if there are two sets of laws applying for Muslims and non-Muslims. Crime is not related to skin colour or religion," the Seremban MP added.

On the same note, Loke said DAP’s opposition towards hudud does not mean the party is anti-Islam, nor has it ever belittled Islamic laws or used the issue to stoke fear among non-Muslims as done by MCA leaders.

"In fact, I myself have defended (PAS spiritual adviser) Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat in Parliament when MCA leaders slandered him...," he added.

Kit Siang: Not party's stand

Loke said DAP was prepared to defend PAS and assist its political ally to allay the fear among non-Muslims regarding the party and Islam.

The MP said DAP understood that the implementation of hudud is one of the core struggles of PAS.

"The principle in the Pakatan common policy framework is that the parties can retain their respective struggles but whatever decisions in terms of implementation and law must receive the consensus of all parties.

"The main crux of the framework is to defend the Federal Constitution, Islam as the official religion of the federation, freedom or religion, to safeguard the special position of the Malays, the constitutional monarchy and Bahasa Malaysia as the national language," he added.

Loke said DAP has never turned its back on these principles, including in the party-governed state of Penang.

As a principled and responsible party, Loke said PAS must respect and adhere to the basics that have been agreed upon.

"PAS cannot act in contrary to the common policy, but at the same time, cling on to Pakatan," he said, adding that he hopes the relationship between PAS and DAP does not come to an abrupt end.

Calling for a principled resolution to this problem instead of "dilly-dallying" in the public eye, Loke quoted the words of the late DAP national chairperson and a strong opponent of hudud, Karpal Singh, who said, "There are no permanent friends or foes in politics, but we must have everlasting principles."

Speaking to Malaysiakini later, DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang said the party has not made an official stand on this matter.

In an immediate reaction, PAS deputy president Mohammad Sabu considered Loke’s remarks as a personal view and not reflective of DAP’s position.

"We don’t have a problem with his view. We will meet with DAP soon to discuss the hudud issue and I prefer not to make any comments until then," he told Malaysiakini.

Mohammad Sabu said the date for the meeting has not been fixed but there would be six representatives from PAS.

Hudud: Impian PAS berkecai?

PETALING JAYA:  PAS sama sekali tidak dapat merealisasikan impian untuk melaksanakan hudud di Kelantan kerana ia tidak akan mendapat 148 undi untuk mendapat sokongan dua pertiga apabila rang undang – undang berkenaan hudud dibentangkan semasa sidang Parlimen dalam bulan Jun.

Pada masa sekarang PAS kekurangan 39 undi. Umno dengan sejumlah 88 undi dan undi PAS sebanyak 21 hanya berjumlah 109.

Jumlah 148 ini penting kerana ia merupakan jumlah dua pertiga yang membolehkan pindaan perlembagaan terhadap Perkara 8 dan Jadual  Sembilan Perlembagaan Persekutuan dibuat.

Ini kerana Perkara 8 adalah berkaitan kebebasan beragama dan Jadual Sembilan tersebut secara terang menyatakan bahawa kuasa menggubal undang-undang jenayah terletak dalam bidang kuasa kerajaan persekutuan.

Mengimbas kembali isu hudud ini bermula apabila Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom menyatakan kesediaan kerajaan persekutuan pimpinan BN untuk menyokong usaha mana-mana negeri untuk menguatkuasakan hukum hudud.

Ekoran itu Menteri Besar Kelantan Ahmad Yaakob mengumumkan kesediaan kerajaan Kelantan untuk melaksanakan hudud.  Beliau akan membentangkan satu rang undang-undang persendirian menerusi ahli parlimen PAS dalam sidang Parlimen dalam bulan Jun.  Ahli Parlimen Ketereh Annuar Musa merangkap Ketua Umno Kelantan turut menyatakan sokongan terhadap usaha ini.

Dari sejumlah 88 kerusi, Umno mempunyai 14 kerusi di Sabah.  Sabah dan Sarawak memegang sejumlah 48 kerusi.

Selain Umno, PBS memegang empat kerusi.UPKO tiga dan PBRS satu.  Ketiga – tiga parti ini akan menentang rang undang-undang tersebut.

Di Sarawak pula,  PBB di bawah kepimpinan Tan Sri  Adenan Satem mempunyai 14 kerusi parlimen. SPDP mempunyai empat kerusi, SUPP satu dan Parti Rakyat Sarawak, enam.

Dalam isu kalimah Allah sebelum ini, bekas Ketua Menteri Sarawak  Tan Sri Taib Mahmud telah mengumumkan untuk mengekalkan status quo yang membenarkan masyarakat Kristian menggunakan kalimah tersebut.  Pengganti beliau, Adenan Satem turut senada dalam hal ini.

Oleh itu, tiada kebarangkalian sama sekali bagi PBB mengundi seperti Umno.  Parti – parti Sarawak lain yang turut menganggotai BN akan turut mengikuti langkah PBB.

Di Semenanjung Malaysia, MCA dengan tujuh kerusi Parlimen, MIC empat dan satu kerusi Gerakan akan turut sama menentang hudud.

Di dalam gabungan Pakatan Rakyat, DAP dengan 37 kerusi akan turut sama menentang hudud.  Kematian Ahli Parlimen Bukit Gelugor Karpal Singh di dalam  satu kemalangan minggu lepas nyata membangkitkan semangat ahli parlimen DAP lain untuk meneruskan tentangan mereka terhadap hudud.

Karpal merupakan pengkritik tegar yang menentang pelaksanaan hudud kerana ia bercanggah dengan Perlembagaan Persekutuan.

Buat masa sekarang hanya PKR sahaja yang belum menyatakan pendirian terhadap hudud meskipun hudud tidak terkandung dalam kerangka dasar bersama Pakatan Rakyat iaitu Buku Jingga.

Menurut presiden PKR, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, parti beliau masih menanti penjelasan PAS berkenaan perkara ini dalam mesyuarat  Majlis Pimpinan Pakatan Rakyat.

PKR mempunyai 30 kerusi dan 16 terdiri daripada orang Melayu Islam.  Sekalipun ahli parlimen Melayu Islam PKR mengundi untuk pelaksanaan hudud, PAS akan tetap kekurangan 39 undi.

Dalam keadaan sebegini impian PAS untuk melaksanakan hudud akan kekal sebagai impian yang tidak tercapai dalam kenangan.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang does not have to settle the RM2 million in damages awarded to a PKR member for defamation, the party’s communications director Fahmi Fadzil said today.

“The Keadilan leadership is of the view that this suit should not continue,” he said in a statement here.

But Fahmi acknowledged that Mohd Shamsul Mat Amin, PKR’s former candidate for the Bukit Besi state seat, was still adamant in carrying out the defamation suit.

“Mohd Shamsul has insisted that he needs to clear his name and dignity following accusations which were made during the 13th general election.

“The Keadilan leadership will take necessary measures to allow this case to be resolved well for the good of all parties involved,” Fahmi added.

Last Sunday, PAS president Hadi was ordered to pay RM2 million in damages to Shamsul over the latter’s defamation lawsuit.

The PKR man won a judgment in default after Hadi failed to appear in the case.

Today, the New Straits Times reported Hadi’s lawyer Asmuni Awi as saying he will file an application by next week to set aside the RM2 million judgment.

Last April, Abdul Hadi had railed against several PKR candidates in a rally at Kampung Tebakang, Alor Limbat referring to them as drug dealers selling “pil kuda” (methamphetamines) and being communist worshippers.

In the May 5 polls last year, the Barisan Nasional candidate emerged victorious in the Bukit Besi contest with a 6,966-vote win, while Mohd Shamsul only picked up 52 votes against the PAS candidate’s haul of 4,408 votes.


2. The Unspinners: Pil kuda punya pasal ... PKR-PAS boleh pecah

Akhirnya Presiden PAS dihukum salah oleh mahkamah dan terpaksa bayar RM2 juta di atas statement yang dianggap saman malu dari penyokong PKR. Satu hal aneh apabila Presiden sebuah komponen parti boleh disaman oleh penyokong parti komponen parti yang llain.

Maka di mana kesepakatan antara Pakatan Rakyat? Adakah cara yang begitu cacamarba begini yang dinamakan demokrasi dan kebebasan oleh puak ini?

Mana kesepakatan yang mereka war-warkan?

Jika sesama mereka, boleh bertindak demikian dan Ketua Umum PKR boleh biar saja Presiden parti lain disaman oleh penyokong partinya, adakah penghormatan PKR terhadap PAS. Adakah bermakna PAS dah tak releven pada PKR dan DAP?

Turut memikirkan bagaiman Presiden parti PAS nak bayar? Kalau ddedahlah dia banyak harta disorok. Bayangkan ....

Saya Tak Setuju Saman di tarik Balik

Game mrk makin menarik. Mula mrk saman Tok Guru. Padahal Tok Guru tak penah tuduh dan fitnah mrk melainkan menyebut secara umum pasal isu pil kuda masa pru 13 dulu

Org dah nasihat bekas calon pkr tu supaya jgn saman tapi keras kepala nak saman juga konon nak jaga maruah. Walhal tok guru tak sebut sepatah nama org yg terlibat dgn pil kuda. Dia terasa giler giler. Akhirnya dia saman juga. Dia ingat mcm org lain jugak ingat, bhw tok guru salah sebut, dapat maklumat salah, penasihat bodek tak kena cara bla bla ... padahal Tok Guru dok ajar ayat cek dulu maklumat sblm nak cakap mcm dlm surah al hujurat tu.

Ringkasnya dia muka sedar bahawa langkah dia saman tu bakal binasakan diri sbb dia pun tahu bahawa tok guru tahu citer sebenar. Lalu berlaku lah drama bertajuk "Penghakiman Ingkar" .. mmg banyak misteri lah nak citer panjang. Tarikh serah surat, penerima surat dari plaintif, campur plak watak loyar cuai perasan diri hebat, hingga lah malam ni ada usaha suruh pkr pujuk bekas calonnya yg menyaman tok guru tu tarik balij saman.

Banyak cantik ! Kamu dah calarkan maruah tok guru, dibantu oleh watak loyar cuai lebih menampakkan pas lemah, pas tu nak tambah episod tarik balik saman ..

Mmg ada asas mrk nak tarik balik sbb org pas mula marah pd pkr dan plan nak boikot Kajang. Anwar tergugat. Pentaksub dan pentakjub Anwar dlm pas pun mula tak selesa. Mrk pun dok lobi minta pkr melalui Anwar nasihat bekas calon pkr tu tarik balik saman. Bukan fikir pasal tok guru tapi bimbang jentera pas boikot kajang move. Derita Anwar nanti.

Mohd Badiuzzaman Mohd Nursi menulis di laman pro ulama PAS, El Haraki mendedahkan PKR bersungguh-sungguh mahu menarik balik saman bernilai RM2 juta terhadap Presiden parti, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang kerana mendapat tahu parti itu akan memboikot Ketua Umum PKR, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yang bertanding dalam Pilihanraya Kecil (PRK) Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Kajang.

“Banyak cantik ! Kamu dah calarkan maruah tok guru, dibantu oleh watak loyar cuai lebih menampakkan PAS lemah, pas tu nak tambah episod tarik balik saman ..

Memang ada asas mereka nak tarik balik sebab orang PAS mula marah pada PKR dan plan nak boikot Kajang. Anwar tergugat. Pentaksub dan pentakjub Anwar dalam PAS pun mula tak selesa. Mereka pun dok lobi minta PKR melalui Anwar nasihat bekas calon PKR tu tarik balik saman. Bukan fikir pasal tok guru tapi bimbang jentera PAS boikot kajang move. Derita Anwar nanti,” katanya dalam tulisan bertajuk, “Saya Tak Setuju Saman ditarik Balik.”

Kemarahan ahli-ahli PAS berpunca daripada keputusan Mahkamah Tinggi Kuala Terengganu Ahad lalu yang mengarahkan Presiden PAS membayar saman berjumlah RM2 juta berikutan penghakiman ingkar yang diperoleh calon Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) bagi kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Bukit Besi, Mohd. Shamsul Mat Amin.

Semalam, Setiausaha Agung PKR, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail dilaporkan Antarapos berkata PKR sedang berusaha bersungguh-sungguh berunding dengan ahli partinya, Mohd. Shamsul dapat diselesaikan di luar mahkamah untuk menjaga hubungan Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

“Kita sedang berusaha, kita sedang berkomunikasi dan berbincang dengan Shamsul tapi di peringkat pimpinan pusat.

“Pertama, ketika isu ini mula-mula dimaklumkan YB Azan beberapa minggu pertama selepas PRU, pimpinan pusat memberikan nasihat kepada Shamsul untuk tidak meneruskan sebarang langkah perundangan sebaliknya berusaha untuk berjumpa dengan presiden PAS secara damai atas semangat kekeluargaan,” katanya.

Mohd Badiuzzaman dari El Haraki berkata usaha menarik balik saman tidak menyelesaikan masalah kerana imej Presiden PAS telah berjaya dicalarkan.

“Saya tak setuju tarik balik saman. Teruskan dan biarkan ada perbicaraan. Kan kita semua nak tahu siapa benar dan siapa salah ? Malah ada yang minta tok guru mengaku salah dan mohon maaf .. macam mana boleh jadi begitu … bawalah ke mahkamah.
