GEORGE TOWN: Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Huan Cheng Guan has vehemently denied that he had ever claimed the DAP candidate for Bukit Gelugor by-election Ramkarpal Singh Deo is gay.
“I did not say Ramkarpal is gay. If I said Ramkarpal Singh is gay, he can always sue me. I will also sue anyone who claims that I said Ramkarpal is gay.
“I don’t care if he is gay or straight. It’s not my problem,” said Huan in response to online media reports that suggested he had alleged Ramkarpal was gay.
Huan said that he had only questioned Ramkarpal’s bachelor status, as he returned fire at Ramkarpal for insulting him as a person who with ‘boh hood’ (no balls) during an event on Sunday night.
Pointing out that he is married with two sons, Huan advised Ramkarpal, a political greenhorn at 38, to learn from his father, the late Karpal Singh, and not indulge in personal attacks on others.
“If you are a tiger cub as your election banner suggests, learn from the tiger and stick to issue-based politics and fight for a just and fair society,” said Huan, 53.
‘I am not a threat to anyone’
Huan faces Ramkarpal and independents Mohamed Nabi Bux Mohamed Abdul Sathar, 63, and Abu Backer Sidek Mohamad Zan, 46, in a four-cornered fight for Bukit Gelugor by-election.
Polling day is on Sunday May 25. The federal seat fell vacant after incumbent MP Karpal was killed in a highway accident near Kampar, Perak on April 17.
Bukit Gelugor has 82,431 voters comprising 61,267 or 74.33% Chinese, 11,913 or 14.46% Malays, 8,848 or 10.73% Indians, and 403 or 0.49% others.
The late Karpal polled 55,839 votes to score a massive majority victory of 41,778 votes against Barisan Nasional candidate Teh Beng Yeam, who could just garner 14,061 votes, in the 2013 General Election.
Huan said that the DAP had now launched no holds barred attack him at rallies, in the Chinese newspapers and social media.
He showed a doctored computer image of him attempting to cut off his private parts with a knife and another image portraying him as gay.
“Why such malicious attacks on me? I am not a threat to anyone,” said Huan.
