GEORGE TOWN: Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Huan Cheng Guan will file a election petition alleging that DAP broke election rules in last Sunday’s Bukit Gelugor by-election.
Huan told newsmen today that he had plenty of evidence of wrongdoing by the victorious party, including video clips and photographs.
He lodged a report with the Election Commission (EC) yesterday.
“I did not provide much evidence to the EC when lodging the report,” he said. “I will produce them all in the election court.”
Huan alleged that state assemblymen, including executive councillors, actively campaigned for DAP on polling day and that they did so within the prohibited 50m perimeter of polling stations.
He accused Tanjung MP Ng Wei Aik of lying in an EC report alleging that he campaigned on polling day.
“Ng’s report was a malicious lie,” he said.
“What was he actually doing at the polling station during the balloting process? Was he a party polling agent?”
He also called on the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to be thorough when investigating allegations by DAP representatives that their phones were hacked during the by-election.
He said the commission should charge the hackers regardless of which party they were from.
However, he expressed scepticism about the allegation “Why is it that allegations of phone hacking by DAP crop up only during elections?” asked Huan, who got 3,583 votes in the by-election.
DAP’s Ramkarpal Singh Deo won the contest with a majority of 37,659 votes.
Independent candidates Nabi Bux Mohamed Nabi Abd Sathar, 63, got 799 and lawyer Abu Backer Sidek Mohamad Zan got 799 and 225 votes respectively. They and Huan lost their election deposits.
