BUKIT GELUGOR The Bukit Gelugor by-election has taken a queer turn with an opponent casting aspersion on DAP candidate Ramkarpal Singh's sexual preference.
Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Huan Cheng Guan is curious about the photographs of muscular men on Ramkarpal’s Facebook page.
"Why is Ramkarpal uploading many photos of muscular men on his FB
"He is 38 and still unmarried, do you feel there is anything wrong with that," he said to reporters when met during his walkabout in Island Glades this morning.
Seeing red over the insinuation, Ramkarpal denied he was homosexual, adding that he was hoping to find a life partner soon.
Describing the insinuation as “nonsense”, the lawyer expressed regret that his opponent has resorted to such tactics
"He (Huan) has nothing (better) to do in his election campaign?" he added.
Apart from Huan, Ramkarpal is also facing two independent candidates Abu Backer Sidek Mohd Zan and Mohamed Nabi Bux Mohd Nabi Sathar.
The Bukit Gelugor parliament seat fell vacant on April 17 when Ramkarpal's father Karpal Singh died in a highway car crash in Perak.
Earlier today, Penang chief minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng spoke too soon when he said the Bukit Gelugor campaign is not as sexist as the contest in Teluk Intan.
"Do you see photos of Ramkarpal in his swimming trunk being circulated?" Lim had asked, referring to fake photos of DAP's candidate for Teluk Intan Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud in a bikini appearing in pro-BN blogs.
Meanwhile, Ramkarpal said he has covered a vast area of the constituency and will visit the remaining places in the coming days.
Asked about his chances of winning, Ramkarpal said it is difficult to predict.
He expressed concern about the possible low turn out of voters as compared to the 85 percent who cast their ballots in the general election last year.
