LGE defends Datuk Huan Cheng Guan

The Rakyat Post reported:

GEORGE TOWN, May 21:
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has expressed surprise that the mother of DAP’s Teluk Intan by-election candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, Yammy Samad is now being subjected to ridicule by certain quarters especially Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno.

According to Lim, after Dyana’s turn of being attacked by Umno and BN, it was now her mother’s turn to be taunted.

“Look, it is Dyana who is contesting, not the mother, so why are they now turning to her mother to launch personal attacks in saying that she has failed to raise Dyana properly.

“I hope Barisan Nasional and BN owned media will be more humane as not to tear apart a mother-daughter bond,” he said before the commencement of the third day of the state legislative assembly here, today.

“Fight healthily, not by resorting to personal attacks and slanderous remarks. Even if we do not win, we can still walk with our heads held high,” he said.

Lim was referring to the incident where Yammy was allegedly attacked by various BN quarters for showing support for her daughter despite being an Umno member herself.

On a separate matter, Lim, also like Jagdeep Singh Deo, rapped the media for posing what he described as an irrelevant question on whether Bukit Gelugor candidate Ramkarpal Singh Deo was gay.

“I do not understand what the fuss is all about about whether or not he is gay and how that is relevant in this election.

“Perhaps I had spoken to soon about the sexist attacks by Umno against Dyana about her wearing bikini and why was there not attacks on Ramkarpal wearing swimming trunk and now the issue of him sharing photographs of athletic individuals on his Facebook has been used against him to insinuate he is gay,” he said.

Lim reiterated that the whole homosexual issue was actually being played up by the media and not Huan.

He expressed his disappointment that his candidates had to be subjected to such unfortunate situations.

He also questioned why such question had to be posed by the reporter when Huan had only made insinuations about Ramkarpal’s affinity in sharing such photographs on his Facebook.

Meanwhile, Jagdeep Singh Deo, the brother of Bukit Gelugor by-election candidate Ramkarpal has described news of his brother refuting hints that he is gay as “failure to execute their duties responsibly”.

A visibly upset Jagdeep said that it was unfortunate that the press of whom his father — the late Karpal Singh who was the Bukit Gelugor Member of Parliament — had so much respect for had caused humiliation which the family had been afflicted as a result of the unfortunate episode.

“As I said at the launching of the operations centre recently, let there be a clean, fair and gentlemanly fight. Let us concentrate on how we can effectively address the issues raised by the residents of Bukit Gelugor in particular and the rakyat of Malaysia as a whole,” he told a press conference before the start of the third day of the state assembly sitting here today.

The issue came about after a member of the press had allegedly asked Ramkarpal if he was gay, after his opponent from Parti Cinta Malaysia Datuk Huan Cheng Guan gave hints that Ramkarpal had an affinity of sharing photographs of men on social media Facebook of which happens to famous Indian actors who are well built of whom is known to inspire many fitness enthusiasts.
